Canterbury Mindfulness Workshop for Parents & Students
An interactive workshop that will focus on teaching parents about evidence-based skills to manage stress in high school students.
|
The Canterbury High School Council, with PRO Grant funding from the Ontario Ministry of Education, is pleased to present a 75-minute-long workshop offered by Dr. Santor. Dr. Santor is a clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with a variety of mental health difficulties. This workshop is geared towards parents but students are also welcome to attend. It will focus on teaching parents about evidenced-based skills to manage stress in high school students.
The workshop will focus on two groups of skills, namely emotion regulation skills (e.g., mindfulness, relaxation breathing, dealing with negative thoughts, doubt, worries and what ifs), and learning skills (e.g., scheduling, dealing with procrastination, active recall and how to take notes effectively). Both groups of skills are critical to improving the well-being of students. Learning how to learn addresses a major source of stress among students, such as managing high workloads and challenging material. Emotional regulations skills assist students in dealing with negative feelings, doubts and worries that often accompany many different sources of stress, including school, family and friends.
The workshop is free and priority will be given to those in the Canterbury school community, before being offered more broadly should attendance be low. It will be held in the school library and will begin promptly at 6 pm. Attendees are invited to arrive at 5:30 pm to enjoy a light dinner prior to the workshop.
Space is limited so please reserve your FREE tickets by RSVPing to this eventbrite event.
